Liars @ The Wick

May 9th, 2014

One of my all time favorite bands
Who are mind blowingly good live
                         Promoting their kinetic new album
At a massive new Brooklyn venue
For a packed house of rabid fans
                                        Accompanied by my best friend
                                             Standing front and center
               =
                                                Perfection

If you don't know Liars yet, I suggest you correct that.  Simply put, they're one of the best bands on the planet and currently firing on all cylinders.  Their latest release "Mess" is pure brilliance.  It continues to garner praise and earn them prime time slots in music festivals around the world.  After seeing them two times in two days (Le Poisson Rouge on May 8th & The Wick on May 9th), I proclaim them a must see live act.  They make you dance while they creep you out, incite you to scream while you jump up and down, and occasionally make you feel like you're being swallowed by a black hole.  Pitchfork gave "Mess" a 6.9 rating.  I give Pitchfork a 1.0 rating for being scared squares.  Their recorded music is top notch.  Their live shows are killer.  Just look at that mug on Angus.  Dude is the truth.

On another note, The Wick is one hell of a place to see a show.  They're in the process of putting the finishing touches on what will likely be the best music venue in Brooklyn.  The space is enormous, the staff is friendly, and the sound is perfect.  We got an exclusive tour of the place, including the soon to open beer hall (The Well) attached to it, after the show.  It is going to be epic.  Stay tuned.
